Was just in the finale of Dark Carnival and all 4 of us survived until the chopper touched down. I helped a team mate fight off a few common and started towards the chopper. Got to the chopper and one survivor was already there. All I had to do was jump in, but the other 2 were not that far away, not too low on health, but had been knocked down. I said F it and went to help the nearest up when a Jockey jumped on me and took me down. The one dude in the chopper got away. I am kinda used to the 'every man for himself when the get away comes' in pubs, but I still typed something like, "So much for helping your mate". The dud that got away said something sarcastic(I don't remember what exactly), and pointed out that he had cleared the path to the chopper and killed 2 tanks.

Hmm...made me wonder if there is a point where you earn your ticket to ride, if you should always try to help everyone alive make it out(even if it means you all loose together), and/or how much you should stick your neck out for your buddy when you don't really need him any more. I know this is a planned aspect of the game - to make you think about what you would do/sacrifice - but was just curious as to what the other players here would do? With friends you play with all the time? In a pub? Does it matter?

I will risk myself for anyone that has played as a team mate and not some dumb Rambo type. If the person has my back, then I have theirs, no matter what. It also depends how well they play. If they are someone you are always saving all the time, then it is not worth trying to save someone that can keep themselves alive.

I am only a last minute jumper.

If the guy is being swarmed, I will fire, throw whatever grenade I have, do SOMETHING to help, but if I can't help and I am about to be over-run as well.... Like the roof area on L4D (1), Mercy Hospital.....

I would at least apologize to the guy I left behind..... :(

Well...in L4D2, the campaigns are DAMNED long now. So if you are at the end and some people die and it looks hopeless, you dont want to die and not get the achievement.

I might have left you as well dependin on the situation lol

yes it is :) lol

As a rule I dont go back for anyone, if they couldnt stay in the group and fight as a team then so be it. The whole point is co-op, not me dying for someone who did something stupid.

I do protect and go after someone if the tank or smoker or charger seperates us, but not for the guys who run off to do other stuff, hide in a bathroom etc.

I don't think anyone was asking about that RB.

The example would be on something like No Mercy, where you are all scrambling for the helicopter, and someone gets caught on the ramp because they are slow and injured or got hung up by a batch that cut them off.

THOSE are teh ones I will jump off the helicopter for and try to help (depending on how possible it is). Anything from just providing cover fire, to going over and reviving if someone ELSE is willing to provide some cover....

But someone that was not playing as a team..... well......
