There are some roughh spots, but the complexity of the levels, the challenges presented by the new SI and the changes to the game (special ammo, melee weapons, etc.) has added enough to the base game to make it a lot of fun to play.

The zombies still waddle, but its something you get past.

I was part of a 4-pack pre-order gang for $33. I think it was worth it, good fun and some more variety. Dark Carnival climax is great and appears to have spawned some DLC. We were questioning if the drummer would be able to haul his ass or become a one man zombie banquet.

its not all that good.
after a while of playing, I have come to these conclusions.

They made the campaigns waaaaay too long. This is horrible for versus. They should have given us more campaigns, but make them shorter

survival is crappy and the infected wont die with 2 arms blown off. And 1 infected hitting you from the back means you stop 100% in any game mode.

The game was aimed at consoles

The only "fun" mode is scavenge because you dont play either side for too long. However the entire game is made up of rage quitters and horrible team stacking because most playing cant play worth ****.

The game is a failure

I actually get mad at the game while playing at times because of all the potential it has...yet it fails so hard. It's hard to even find teams now! Lobbies dont even stay packed. I just do quick games for scavenge
oh yeah, this isnt including all the glitched and crashes the game causes

For some reason, people do not own, or refuse to use mics for this game. L4D1, everyone used a mic!

So now when you talk to people and they constantly ignore you for help, backup or anything else, I blow up their gas cans and set them on fire before I ragequit lol

It's great when your teammate (after 3 times of telling him not to reload and melee the hunter off of you)... still reloads, taking that extra 3 seconds to get me incapped.

...yeah, I blew up his gas can lol

On the other side, when you do get people who know what they are doing, they totally kick the one player that holds them back big time... which is a good thing. In 4v4 scavenge, 1 player can kill your entire team

I don't disagree with everything DA said, but the picture is a bit different in the Campaign side of things.


Too few players with mics - true
Griefers - a few but not many
Inexperienced players playing over their level - far, far too many of those. This makes finding good teams harder than it should be. I wonder if many of the good L4D1 players are holding off until getting the game for Xmas or something. (Two games in a row I got handed pills as I was in the middle of defending myself against a horde and subsequently died. Other players go on ahead of the group and die, making it harder for the rest. Etc.)
Length of the campaigns - I love that they're long. I don't play survivial or versus at all, so the harder the better. I'm going through the campaigns on Expert first, and they are so hard its a real challenge that gives the game lasting appeal. I only last night got all the way through the finale on Hard Rain and I was blown away (no pun) by the atmospherics (i.e. hard, hard rain) that you get in that campaign. (Unfortunately I didn't start the campaign with them so I didn't get the achievement.)
Melee changes - the nerfing of your melee is offset somewhat by having melee weapons (frying pan, katana, etc.) but now you have a choice to make. Do you want pistols so you have a distance weapon to go with your shotgun? Do you take a sniper/AR so you can hit far targets and melee them up close? Or do you just hope that your teammates with rifles will make up for you being an up-close fighter only? On balance, its a good change that brings some strategy to the game.

I don't call the game a fail, and there are some significant things that need fixing (i.e. shoot a zombie in the face as it is getting up off the ground and it doesn't affect him at all). Its different enough that I see why it makes some sense to have it be a whole new game.

The whole peer-to-peer console-style matchmaking sucks though, and it just reinforces my decision not to get COD:MW2 (unless they wake up and do it right).

There is a built-in server browser in L4D1 (and I assume in L4D2 also) but it was not very useful in the first game. I haven't tried it in the second.

Played Hard Rain from start to finish in one sitting. Took 1 hour 9 minutes, and when I was done I sat back in my chair and told myself that the $$ I spent for the game were justified. OutFckingStanding campain!

lets face it, L4D was an unfinished product and now L4D2 is an unfinished product that was spit shined up for console users.

It's not even using a different engine!!! It's the same game with minor graphical and gameplay tweaks.

Hmm.. well I never had BSODs with L4D, though it did quit to desktop on occasion. So SOMEthing's different.

I havent had any crashes, and I love the game. Straight out love it. My Bro, Spraygun and I play it a few hours a night and have a great time. If not for MW2 Id be playing this 14+ hours a week :) Its honestly the best 45 bucks I spent this year, I got it on the pre order with the wooden bat

I think that is the most challenging campaign in the game, tons of witches, tanks, and spitters.

yeah, 3 hours for a campaign... but think about it for versus when each team needs to play the round. I mean, yeah, you can die quick... but it's not setup that way.

i didnt notice, but 2 DLC's are coming out.
one for L4D1 and another for L4D2.

They will tie in the storylines. L4D2 will come out first and you meet up with the first batch of survivors...minus 1.
Then the DLC for L4D comes one with the new story filling the gap on what happened to the other survivor. Valve already stated that the person died.
