Well, I was kinda offered a job...not in so many words within my own company.
Without getting into the details, this looks like my way of getting out of a dead end position and into something entirely new.

Anyone have any experience with IT Auditing (compliance)?
I will probably go for it and get certified too

But I am just curious as to how it is. Right now, I am desktop support for all the CO's in the company, so it's very hands on. I'm feeling that this is just the opposite.

Lots and lots of paper work exists for our IT Auditors. That's all I know about the stuff, and our position may differ from yours.

The short description:

"IT auditors help organizations comply with legislation, making sure they keeping data and records secure. These auditors don’t actually implement any fixes; they just offer an independent review of the situation."

Sounds like a lot of paperwork.

Hey work is work. I like to be hands on myself but I'm going to have to leave that behind here very soon if I ever want to progress beyond where I'm at.

So go for it DA, it most definitely won't hurt the resume.

Aye - always a difficult jump from hands on to management etc.

Well..... Did you take the job DA?

well, the job wasnt officially offered or even posted yet.

Basically, due to me working closely with all of the CO's, the CIO considers me his "go to guy" and while we were talking one day, I voiced my... for lackof a better word, "disappointment" in the fact that due to the merge, I am now stuck in a static position with no possible way for me to grow within the company.

He then passed the word down to a regional VP whom I have worked with and helped out many times in the past and basically, I was given 3 career options within the company.

Project Manager
Telecom Supervisor
IT Auditor

So after a nice 3 hr interview with the RVP, VP and director, I told them that I was interested in the Auditing position. However due to legalities, they will have to post it on the companies intranet before they go any further. They will give me a heads up when it gets posted. So I basically have the inside track combined with a push from the CIO.

Nothing is official however...but my chances certainly are higher than average.

I did...maybe thats why nothing is happening ;p

Actually, I met the CIO again today, but that was because he is here for meetings. I just gave him a heads up on the situation and thanked him again. But this could take anywhere from another 2 weeks to as long as 2 months for all I know. Could be longer!

Keep in contact. Call or mail him once a week to see how things are going. Express interest. Don't let them forget you, but don't nag either.

GL!

oh no...trust me, they wont forget. Everyone pretty much jumps when the CIO says something.

I might keep in touch once a month or so. Like you said, dont nag.
