According to the L4D blog:
The Passing, Coming April 22 (http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=3729):
The first game add-on for Left 4 Dead 2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.
The Passing also introduces a series of weekly game mode events dubbed "Mutations." These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from "Realism Versus" mode to "Chainsaw Massacre," which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of "The Passing" DLC.
In addition, "The Passing" offers a new co-operative challenge mode of play, support for infected bot play in Versus, a new "uncommon common" zombie class (the fallen survivor), melee weapon (golf club), and firearm (M-60).
Available for 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and free on the PC, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

Expect it in 3 days :)
Are the L4D1 characters just bots? It would be super interesting if they are real players from L4D1!

thats what its sounding like.
From what i understand, in the passing, i think they actually play with you. So 4 of you + 3 bots.
One of the achievements is having only the original survivors kill a tank

Oofah.
But this also opens up the opportunity to have, in the future, the ability to play with any of the 7, or maybe even have a 7 person co-op. (Scaling would be needed, of course).
It is just cool that they are doing this, AND FOR FREE FOR THE PC!!!!
They know they need to bribe PC players to keep them loyal... Console people can eat cake.

I'm downloading it now. Had to change my d/l server to Australia cuz the USA servers are swamped.
I'm getting 850K/s download, which is pretty near my max. :-)

it sucks.
they took a year to make this?
i feel bad for the console kiddies who need to pay for it

Sucks - really? It is just free added content. Did you hate it that much?
..and ya - wouldn't have paid for it BW.

I think that is the key. Console Kiddies are used to paying for everything in some sort of non-refundable proprietary monetary system.
Computer games are STARTING to get like that (downloading a game and paying THE SAME AMOUNT for something w/o packaging or documentation? Sounds fine until you remember games like Baldurs Gate that came with a 100+ page spiral bound instruction manual!), but they are still difficult to get bound. UC is VERY important and I hope many games keep remembering this (as ones like Battlefield seem to have forgotten).
I have not DL'd it or played it, but paying $0 for an "official" addon is much better than paying 647 Pixie Points.

It seems a little... chaotic? The caches of dozens of pills, shots, mollies, etc. seem too generous. We made it through the finale on Expert without a restart, without any real coordination between us - we just slugged our way through it. It didn't seem hard enough.
That said, it was definitely cool and all. The streets and buildings all were interesting. I haven't played with the M60 enough to get a feel for it.
I wondered after the fact if a defib could have been used on the survivor who... didn't. :D (I heard that they couldn't get that character's voice actor to record for The Passing.)
I also hear that there is one big DLC coming for L4D1, and then that'll be it for that game.

Hopefully that DLC would simply be a free FIX for what was messed up in the first place.
It would be nice for them to leave a finished product, you know?

Saw this on Slickdeals.net...

L4D2, $20, or a 4 pac for $60.
I am gonna cry if they keep doing this!
(Lesson learned, wait for 3 months after game release)

Sorry, y'all, I had to change the title. I kept thinking it was saying something about people passing out?

I just never could get into L4D2. I just don't like it or the new characters. I am lucky if I got 10 hours of playtime before I went back to Borderlands.

Watched my kid play Borderlands - found it to look so boring there's no way I'd even start playing it.

Meh, depends.
It GETS boring, but I have to say it is fun when you play with people you know.
Also, there have been very few FPS games I have enjoyed watching someone else play..... ;)

play with people you know?
If you ever get your router configured to play online, be lucky that your friends are even close to your level.
If not, everything is just stupid and confusing.

The game server/browser window stank. You have Console Gaming to thank for that.
But playing with Slay and Ash was a LOT of fun! ;)

its sad.
Consoles got powerful enough to be able to handle FPS games and now all the FPS makers are neglecting the PC audience who made them what they are in favor of console gaming newbies.
They figure they would get a free ride in "cheaping out the customer" because consolers dont know jack about online gaming and the proper way to do it.

Actually DA, they did not do it for that.
They did it because they make more money. More console games are sold than PC, they cost more $$, they are harder to hak, and all the addons and stuff are all pay-to-play.
They should really try and get some user content for the consoles though (PC development modules maybe?), but I do not seem them rushing to do so when so much money can be made with the right title that plays on a system that costs the same as a good video card!

Me and my friends bought Borderlands because of the additional add-ons they are still making and simply, we wanted a game we could play as a group together.
The secret boss in the last add-on(the general Knoxx one) is a whole lot of fun. We keep fighting him, because it usually takes over an hour to kill him and is almost impossible to take him out by yourself.
Single player is pretty boring after you hit the higher levels.

Playing the finale of The Passing on Expert Campaign mode (or Realism Campaign) with a team of good, competent players is one of the most exhilarating gaming experiences I've had in a long time.
Just sayin'.

I played it on Norm I think with some good players.
It is pretty easy if you know what is up (sniper rifle is really handy to keep a group together).
Playing Survival there is a little tough though! ;)
