Anyone played it, thoughts? Thinking of grabbing it since I can get it on the PC, I still haven't gotten used to, nor do I think I ever will, playing an FPS on a console...that is until they support mouse and keyboard. :)
I am surprised there hasn't been much talk of this game here. I plan on getting it today. It looks amazing.

dunno.
im playing MW2 and am pissed about the lack of dedicated servers and how IW are running their sh!t.
But using MW2 as a base example, i can only see BC2 being even worse.
Think about UT2k4 and what vehicles did to the game!

The two lead MW developers from IW were just canned for insubordination and other crimes against their corporate overlords.

Vehicles are just fine, I wouldn't compare Bad Company 2 with any iteration of UT. I mean you were perfectly capable of taking down vehicles while on foot in Battlefield 2, which would be a much better game to correlate it with since it's a game that BC2 is based on.

03-05-2010, 12:33 PM
Ummm, yeah. So, it really is what kind of game you like to play, I'll go down this pretty sad list of complaints:
1) The movement of characters is horrible. It's slow, glitchy, and random.
Example, why can you not strafe in sprint? No prone lol? Very slow movement.
You have always been slow in the Battlefield type games, because well, soldiers aren't the speediest little guys on the planet. They tend to be carrying stuff, called "gear". This gear has weight, and well, gravity and mass makes fools of us all. That takes care of the slow. Now to glitchy, if it is glitchy and random, the guy may have a bit of heavy packet loss, I seriously doubt they released the game where you can't even move in a direction that you want to...but I could be wrong and that may be a valid complaint. But I'd probably guess it's due to a bad internet connection or a server having some performance issues.
2) The shooting is terrible. Sniping is a game of luck. Line it up perfectly and no hit (even with dip). BTW why do bullets dip in a game? Stupid mechanic. It should be 1 shot kill in chest, head etc. Also, bullet travel time ... sigh - so stupid in a game! This is what makes Battlefield awesome as a shooter, you don't always freaking hit where your iron sight is pointing, you know, like reality. Hence why you normally stick your gun on a a 3 round burst, you know, like in reality. Bullet drop, here we area again, gravity and mass. This really sounds like a person who just wants to snipe from across a map and really wants his gun to be a laser rifle from some unknown future world.
3) Machine guns are stupidly overpowered. Nerf damage or range.Machine guns are powerful, they are the most effective infantry weapon, which is why IT'S IN USE BY EVERY ARMY IN THE WORLD. Boy howdy, this is just stupid. What gun is he using...I bet I know! A sniper rifle! And he's sadden that he can't shoot that gun from the hip and kill a soldier that is bearing down on him with an L85A1 or M16A2.
4) The graphics are terrible and PC version is very slow, buggy. I have a quadcore at 3.6ghz with a gtx 295. It should eat this game at 100fps+ but instead its choppy and slow. Either a bad console port or serious coding problems. These are very poor dated graphics with low texture resolution.ORLY! As far as I've seen the graphics for BC2 are slightly better than MW2 but they are very comparable, watch game play from both and decide for yourself (both below are the XBox versions):
MW2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glkUDI6aHrg&feature=related)
BC2
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jr-n8yaW4Y)
My guess is this sniper kiddie just can't configure his rig properly...or maybe he couldn't find the video settings.
5) Server connections? Why is it so hard to join without timeouts or server full? Why do I get kicked after 10min?Because the game just came out and they are experiencing the same issues that every big title game has, it's crowded, once they see the demand and they increase available servers this will settle down.
Hope that helps put those "complaints" in to some type of perspective.
]LoL[Harm
03-05-2010, 12:39 PM
I mean I'm not saying the BC2 is the next awesomest game in the world, but to base your opinion on comparing MW2 to BC2 off the above list of complaints is doing yourself a disservice.
If you've ever played BF2, I'd tell you to think how that game played, but it sounds like you haven't. Have you played any of the BF series of games? They are more squad based and team based and less one man army type of games like CoD, which feels more like Counter-Strike.

MW is my first real life style FPS.
I have been UT most of my gaming years sans recently TF2.
I still cant find a real UT replacement
]LoL[Harm
03-05-2010, 12:59 PM
Yeah, if you're looking for something more akin to UT, then MW2 will be way closer to it than BC2.
I started to get into the more realistic shooters with Americas Army (which was free). Battlefield 2 was far superior to Americas Army and took me away from that game. And now I'm hoping Bad Company 2 will be what puts me back in the squad based FPS game.
Maybe I'm just liking slower games as I get older. I mean TF2 is not all that fast paced either, which worked great for me.
dragonash
03-05-2010, 01:01 PM
TF2 started to get too convoluted for me.
Now we collect pieces to forge more weapons or hats?
Oh gimme a break
]LoL[Harm
03-05-2010, 01:01 PM
In fact if you want to get a flavor of the squad based type game Americas Army is still free and they've updated that thing a ton. It will definitely show you a totally different style of FPS, because it is one of the most realistic FPS out there. You die, you're out for the round, and getting shot anywhere can be deadly as you can bleed out if there isn't a medic around to patch you up.
And yeah, I haven't played TF2 since they put in the new weapons.
Ninjahedge
03-05-2010, 02:39 PM
Quite frankly, I think TF2 is getting a bit too silly.
While I appreciate the added bits that add a bit of balance (Sandvitch being one) others really do nothing for me (The Highlander Sword? Really?).
I have to say though, TF2 was one of the best team games out there, very different game between skilled team and n00bs, and it has lasted a VERY long time, partially because of all the home grown mapping.
But, it is NOT a realistic game, it is campy, VERY fast paced and takes some good teamwork.
As for the realistic genre? I am 50/50 on that. I am still hooked on the battle armor and shields that you get in many games and not where one shot means you sit out for 20 minutes (or more) waiting for your team to finish the round.
Real war sucks, quite frankly. It was never REALLY meant to be a game. And sometimes people like a bit of viceral competition like that, but a lot of people won't.
But complaining about bullet drop and no perfect aim? Pshaw.
dragonash
03-05-2010, 02:48 PM
been reading up on the physics of that.
I think they went ahead and made it TOO real.
Think about it. Now you gotta compensate for lag AND bullet drop? oh boy.
I guess lag wouldnt be too much of a prob since they have something called dedicated servers.
Must be the new thing in the gaming world. So much for "Modern" Warfare ;p
]LoL[Harm
03-05-2010, 03:31 PM
I'm totally with you when you state that too real is no fun. That's why I haven't played Americas Army in about 5 years. It was ultra realistic. And that's why Battlefield 2 had such a draw, in it you could choose to spawn at any forward base your team had captured, insuring you could get right back into the action.
And when I say TF2 is slower, I'm comparing it to UT. I don't think I've played a game since UT that was as fast paced. TF2 felt dog slow, especially if you played a heavy. And sometimes trudging back to the front lines took some time. Battlefield 2 is very similar in that type of speed.
Ninjahedge
03-05-2010, 08:34 PM
I know how you feel about the heavy. They are useless w/o a good medic and, in some cases, a good engie with a level 3 TP! ;)
It all depended on the map, and some were more crazy than others.
The thing is, when you are playing a Point Capture map, people, in their interest to make it more intense, made it hard to win with instant respawn. Frag fest is what it becomes rather than team strategy...
But whatever, it is still a game that lived a good long life, similar to UT.
I think the thing that made UT last, besides only having Quake to compete with, was user content.
Deck 16 would have never been if it wasn't for that.

]LoL[Harm
03-11-2010, 02:40 PM
I purchased the game and have played it roughly 14 hours now. Here is my opinion of the game:
Pro's: Fun action, intense firefights, a good squad makes the game (well it is a squad based game), the unlocks accumulate quickly and are not the focus of the game, they removed jet fighters from at least the Rush mode of the game, haven't played Conquest enough to know if they ditched them there. Three game types, Conquest (traditional BF2 style play), Rush (very similar to the TF2 assault style where each success by the attackers progresses the map) which is my new favorite and Deathmatch which I haven't played yet. Graphics are extremely nice, *mostly* fully destructive environments makes setting up forward "bases" to assault from more tricky and requires you to be more fluid. Have a problem with the attackers hiding in a heavily forested area, deforest it with grenades, machine gun fire or a mortar bombardment from your friendly recon.
Con's: Server stability, no in-game voice comm support at this time (I'm guessing it was disabled to aid in server stability due to the massive load they've had on their game servers), Server browser is slow and lacks ping mechanics, no ability to directly access a server via IP.
I only experience bullet drop at extreme distances, and the bullet travel time is a freakin blessing. I was attempting probably a 600-700m sniper shot with a SV-98. The target was moving. Now I compensated for what I hoped would be the bullet drop and aimed on target. I of course had travel time I did not account for, with a muzzle velocity of around 850m/s, it will take just under 1 second for the bullet to reach where I was aiming, in that bit of time, he was of course not at the same spot, because a man running at 6mph moves 8.8 feet a second. So I of course missed.
You can actually see the tracer of where your bullet goes if you pay enough attention. The bullet drop pulled the bullet from about his mid chest to his groin area...had he been standing still. But people moving perpendicular to you at a 700m range are freaking hard to hit. Which is as it should be. :)
As a note though, 100m shots are basically point and click. You stick it on their head and they're usually dead.
Currently server admins don't have the ability to restrict the number of certain classes. Therefore there are a significant amount of snipers in game, and with the notes above taken in to consideration, they aren't all very effective. Especially if they haven't unlocked the mortar or motion sensor grenades yet, which are the two most awesome and useful things the Recon kit has.
I currently favor assault and medic, which is a hold over from BF2. I'm still around 60% accurate with the 40mm grenade launcher (I believe I was around 70% in BF2) and can't get enough of just blowing peoples cover out from underneath them. :)
Funny enough the only one shot, one kill weapon (beside getting hit in the head as most weapons will kill you instantly if that occurs...but your helmet does protect you from certain angles (face shots excluded) and you'll hear the tink of the bullet careening off your helmet) is the RPG and other anti-vehicle weaponry, and of course, I get killed many a time by an RPG hitting me in the face. No complaints there really, since well, an RPG would kill me instantly, and of course, I should be paying attention, they tend to travel more slowly and more visibly than a bullet :).
The game is fun, addicting in a small way, but lacks some enjoyment because I don't have a solid group of 3 other people to run around with.
I have been playing it too. So far I am having fun with it.
Good points Harm.
Funny thing is I found myself watching a RPG hit me in the face too. I was just thinking wow that looks cool. I was also caught in a building that got shelled and it collapsed on me. Killed by a wall = awesome.
I found myself in a good squad and it really makes it interesting with teamwork.
I need to learn a lot more though.

I haven't run in to anyone I thought was cheating. And they actually made it really easy to unlock everything so there really shouldn't be any market for selling an account.
Now, the boring part I can dig, it is the same maps over and over again. But that's just how it is in FPS games. I mean, UT didn't come out with 1000 maps. The modding community did that. It would be nice to see BC2 get modding support but my guess is EA won't do that.
So I agree with you that it can get boring. But the cheaters/hackers, haven't noticed a single one in over 87 hours of play.

I think EA needs to look at it differently.
LET the people make their own maps and set up their own servers, but include in the license agreement that any map created was theirs to do what they wanted with it.
So you get a bunch of user-maps, and a few work great. EA then claims them (still allows distribution, however) and then sells an approved, tested and unified "map pak" for some miniscule price ($5?).
They would have minimila expense in producing it, and many console players would get some good content that only the PC players had before.
Put the original makers name on it somewhere (commemorative plaque on the side of a building in the game or something) and you will get minimal complaints from the ones putting in the work.
The key is, keep the packs CHEAP, and remember to compliment your FREE WORKFORCE!!!!
Bet you they won't though. Easier to lock down and prevent any 3rd party contribution than to make friends and use a huge free resource that might force you to give things away for free... :P

I don't play this game anymore. Each time I play it seems always the same thing. Destroying building is fun at the start but capturing the same capture point over and over this is dam boring. New map, skins or gameplay required. Not worth the $30 for online play :D. Better playing any UT or TF2. I play League of Legends most of the time. Worth any penny cause it is free and fun. They add a new character each week or 2. It is enough to keep the game alive even if you always play in the same map over and over:D.
Don't get me wrong the Battlefield 2 BC campain is great but short. Online is just fun at the start and unlocking stuff is a bad idea for this game imo. This is just keeping people online playing like zombies a boring game. :D

Conquest sucks mainly because no one really plays it strategically. You only need 2/3 of the points or 3/4 of the points to cause ticket loss. So what happens in organized play is that you assign certain squads to capture and then HOLD the points. The entire holding a point concept is completely lost in public servers, people just rush from one to the other, which sadly eliminates one of my favorite things, that is setting up a solid defense and holding on to what you've already captured.
I must have an easy to capture attention, because I still find all mode of the game fun in certain doses.

I'm almost always on an MIA server (just search for MIA) if its got people on it, other than that I'm on GRAVE-PACKERS.COM server (search for that). And I play under Paolis.
Hey, can I join the MyU clan?! ;)
Shift - you are in automatically ;)
I also play on Grave Packers Rush , Hooray for Boobies Rush, Habitat4Hookers Rush. I have been enjoying squad deathmatch too - -TOC- server .
I find myself knifing people a lot hmmmmm reminds me of hammers!!!!

HAMMAR!!!!!
Anyone seen Sol?
I think Sol returned to her home planet and is probably playing some futuristic shooter simulator with a big smile on her face as she rips through everyone in sight like a little tornado.
I waited for a 'Hi' for 5 years but I think she successfully blocked all memories of the UT era. I just hope she is happy. :D

I shot 3 bombs in a row to a guy and he don't get any damage...
FPS is cheating over cheating this is soooo sad :(

Hmm maybe it was just the server. I haven't seen much cheating when playing.
I am playing more Vietnam BC2 though now.

Cor, it may also be the servers you are on.
Some people are a bit more honest when playing games that are supposed to be more realistic.....

I see tons of people getting kicked on PB servers. And I see a few that slip through. It's defiantly getting worse.
