That's really strange. When I get home, I'll try a few things on mine and see if I can create the same error.

EDIT: Just remember something. When you unzip the package, you have to uncheck the "TAR file smart CR/LF conversion" under winzip's config, Misc.

Try remove all of those related files and upload the newly unzipped one again.

Web browser always assume the link you save are html when it doesn't know what it is. No biggie, just rename it to anything you like.

I haven't used ed for over 10 years. Can't remember the commands now. I hope you've copied the "joe" into your Tivo.

1) In bash prompt, type "joe /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit"
2) Go to the end of the file, Ctrl-K V
3) add this line: "httpd.tcl > /dev/null 2> /dev/null &"
4) Save the file, Ctrl-K X

But shouldnt there be a audio and video file? I thought you would then use TMPGE to merge and convert??

There are two ways to do it:

Method I. Use TyConvert V0.32 to convert Tivo file as ONE MPEG file.

You can use PowerDVD or any video players that can play Mpeg2 files to play the resulting file.

If you want to convert it to VCD or SVCD, you have to:
1) Use DVD2AVI and "Save Project" with or without the audio. The result is a small .d2v project file.
2) Use TMPEGenc to compile VCD or SVCD using the d2v file as the video and the Tivo MPEG2 file (not the Tivo file) or the Audio Mpeg file extracted by DVD2AVI.

Method II.
Use TyConvert to convert the Tivo file as Video Mpeg and Audio Mpeg file seperately using the "Separate A/V files" function. The problem of this method is that sometimes the A and V goes out of sync. You can try to use the "Auto-sync audio" or use the Manual audio offset (each unit is 36ms) to sync the AV up.

Well I thought there would be a nice web interface to do this but it looks like you just use the Now Showing to get the tystreams ID number?

You can use any extension. It doesn't matter. Once you "save as", the Tivo server in turns run ExtractStream and give you the Tivo version of the mpeg2 file.

There are many tools on the client side (your PC) to intercept and play the Tivo file without any translation. However, so far, I can only find TyConvert that really works for Windows. All those cool interfaces/programs runs on Linux, not for windows.

Correct, the project file IS the video file from TMPEGenc's point of view. You can just use the "TyConvert"ed Mpeg file as the audio file for TMPEGenc.

TyConvert: http://www.armory.com/~charlie/TyConvert/TyConvert.html

BTW, sooner or later you'll get a video that generate HUGE .mpa file from the dvd2avi. And the dvd2avi problem doesn't seem to stop. In that case, you'll have to use method II. Before you use method II, take a note on the file name that dvd2avi generates for the .mpa file. It should be something like MoviesMPA T01 DELAY 240ms.mpa. That's mean the audio needs to be offset by 240ms.

Method II:
1) Run tyconvert and use "Seperate A/V" files.
2) put a number in Manual Audio offset. If the mpa file name that dvd2avi generate says 240ms, put round(240/36,0)= 7 in there.
3) Use the resulting AV files for TMPEGenc.

Method III:
If you find the audio is faster than the video, tyconvert won't let you do negative offset.
1) Use tyconvert to generate a single mpeg file.
2) Use dvd2avi to generate just the project file. Disregard the audio file.
3) Use TMPEGenc's MPEGTools to demux the single mpeg file and just need the audio extract from it. (Double click on the audio checkbox).
4) Use (2) & (3) for TMPEGenc.

I'm getting the error to decode audio on the basic quality recordings when I get to the end of TMPGE. Have you had any problems with lesser quality?

Tivo went to a great length to stop people from getting the video out. Let alone letting you play the video file without going through all these trouble.

Well you can take the Tyconvert file and play it on Power DVD and it looks real good. I hope they come out with something that will help our DVD player to play them too.

That's SVCD. Records shows in High Quality mode and encode it to SVCD using TMPEGenc.

BTW, another Video Extract software that I tested and didn't work just got an upgrade. I'm testing it now. It seems to work quite well.

It would be a one-stop-shop, if it works. After testing it last night, there are still some A/V sync problem using the extract to mpeg format directly. So did the extract to video and audio files seperately.

Just tested extract as Tivo raw format. It seems have better A/V sync compare to the direct webpage extract. However, he did mentioned that he fixed a bug in ExtractStream. So, it could be just the fix from ExtractStream instead of his software was doing magic.

The A/V sync depends on the video. Some are good and some are way off. I don't think this app is ready as a one-stop-shop just yet.
